Slavery of the Mordern World

Written by Jade Sultan

Human Trafficking is the act of forcefully transporting or recruiting persons for the purpose of exploitation which may include prostitution or sexual exploitation, forced labor, slavery or removal of organ and a modern form of slavery. This is one of the things we don't usually talk to our family or family. We may say that we know what is Human trafficking but somethings need to be research and understand.

The UN office of drug and crime estimate that there are 2.5 million of victim of human trafficking worldwide. In the world, you could buy a "slave" around $90 or 4,050 pesos. US is one of the the country experiencing human trafficking. The average age of the victim is 12 to 15 years old, mostly runaway girls, in the US. In California, the top three of child sex trafficking is Los Angeles, San Francisco and san Diego. Around 14,500 to 17,500 are trafficked into US each year.So many things Human Trafficking in other countries and Phillipines is one of them.

In Philippines is a "Sex Tourist Spot" for men, women, and children who are subjected to sex trafficking and forced labor and continue to be one of the largest source countries for sex trafficking and forced labor victims around the world. DSWD listed in 2012 alone that there are 1,375 victims of Human Trafficking. However, the real number of victims are likely more than that. In the Philipines, there are 4 types of Human Trafficking in the Philipines. There are forced beggins in the street, debt bondage, forced labor and in warfare and for sex. Factors that cause Human Trafficking are Poverty, Lack of economic development, unemployment, lack of education and sex tourism.

Filipinos are experiencing this inside of thier homeland and outside of the Philipines. You may not know but people are trafficked from rural areas to urban centers including Manila, Cebu, the city of Angeles, and increasingly to cities in Mindanao. It is happening inside our country, where we are born and rise. Filipino were trafficked into the commercial sex industry in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea,Japan, Russia , Eastern Europe and in various Middle Eastern countries. Filipinos are spread out in countries and abusing them repeatedly.

What I'm talking about that ever country experience this and people are suffering everyday. We should raise awareness to the countries and make it illegal to everyplace. This issue may not be very well known but this topic is current happening to girls, boys and adults. What I'm want to show you that we should help people in danger of this. This is a serious crime that nobody should turn a blind eye. This is a abomination in our world and we should try our best to help the victims.
