Stop Racism

Written by Ruth O. Caluban

When I was young, I wasn’t aware of anything. I wasn’t aware of what was happening to the world. I realized that I was missing a lot in this world. Out of curiosity, I started to watch news and research about what are the current global issues. Racism is one of them. I have noticed that it has been occuring more frequent that it has before. But what is racism? Why is it considered a ruthless thing.

It has been said that racism involves the belief of racial differences which acts as a justification for non-equal treatment. This word is usually used negatively. There are different types of racism. People these days are experiencing discrimmination just because of their skin color. The main victims would be the colored people just like the “black Americans”. In USA, there are buses that separates the “Black” American passengers from the “White” American passengers. There are also some companies where they don’t approve of “Black” applicants. Some people are also discrimminated for their nationality or their cultural beliefs. This is called cultural racism. Some experience institutional racism. This type of racism is the racial discrimmination by the governments. How ruthless is that?

There are people who are really ruthless in a way where they blame the people who are colored or black. They blame them for having bad dreams or someone dying because of those dreams. There was this person who dreamt about a Negro and had a sickness.

We shouldn’t blame others for something they didn’t do. Just because they’re black doesn’t mean they’re bad luck.

I believe that this global issue should stop. We were made by God and for God. We were made in God’s image and equally. I believe that we, humans, don’t have the right to insult someone for who they are physically or mentally. We never know that this might trgger something in their mind, like commit suicide or harm themselves. So we have to be careful with what we say to people.

Just like what people say the youth is the hope of the future. We should raise our children right. We should tell them that we have to respect one another and treat each other equally. We should keep Mandela’s quote in mind. “No one is born hating on another person of the colour of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate then they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” We should work as one to stop this global issue. We should work as a team.
