The Death of Chivalry

Written by JP Carlos

When you say chivalry; many imagine knights saving damsels in distress.  But one does not have to wield swords and wear armors to show chivalry.  Rather, it is the gesture of putting other’s well-being before one’s self.  Gallantry, bravery, loyalty, valor are some words associated with this word.  Has it died with the medieval times?  Or is it alive in some nook and cranny somewhere?

Thank You For Your Prayers

Written by JP Carlos

Typhoon Hagupit, locally called Typhoon Ruby came and went.  From a Super Typhoon it eventually died down into a tropical depression.  Of course many will attribute this to the weather patterns and they may be right.  But some of us who believe in a higher power will always look towards God for gratitude.  And the prayers of the world for the Philippines is greatly appreciated.

Face the Storm With A Steadfast Heart

Written by JP Carlos

The looming devastation due to Typhoon Ruby (the international name is Hagupit) puts the mood of the Philippines in one that is contemplative, anxious and fearful.  After the rampage of Typhoon Yolanda, people in the Visayas region of the country are without doubt full of fear.  But in spite of the imminent danger, they hold a steadfast belief that they will overcome this hurdle.  And for the rest of the country, and the world, we just can’t do much but wait.

Is the Philippines Prepared For Another Disaster?

Written by JP Carlos

It seems like yesterday when the Super Typhoon Yolanda devastated the Philippines.  Now here comes another powerful typhoon with gusts up to 250 km/h.  Have we learned from previous experiences?  This is yet to be seen and I hope that we are really prepared.

Politics in Disaster Management

Written by JP Carlos

It amazes me how some politicians can turn a disaster situation into campaigning media mileage.  I suppose every opportunity can be turned into a political tool.  Take the Yolanda Super Typhoon that hit the Philippines.  Right after the disaster, politicians jostled for position for some air time.  While victims of the calamity are suffering, they have the guts to turn the situation into campaign opportunities.  And to think campaign period is several years ahead.

Let Them Burn In Hell

Written by JP Carlos

Is it too bad of me to want rapist dead?  Is it too bad of me to want murders given the death penalty?  I cannot help but put myself in the shoes of the victim or their family.  The atrocities perpetrated by these individuals are too horrible to fathom.  All I have for them is pure disgust.

Pathetic Job of Ebola Quarantine in the Philippines

Written by JP Carlos

The concern about Ebola is a worldwide issue.  Some countries are unfortunate enough to have this virus plaguing their population.  Moreover, containing and controlling this pathogen is a challenge not only for these countries but for the whole world.  This is why measures to prevent its entry into the Philippines (and other countries) have been rigorous.  However, the recent events in the Philippines have spawned doubts on the competence of the people safekeeping the Filipinos from Ebola.

A Land Without A God

Written by JP Carlos

They say that the concept of God is just a man made construct to make sense of the world that lacks reason or explanation.  Although we have scientific breakthroughs every day, we still cling to the idea of a powerful being that controls our future and influenced our past.  Some say it is a huge waste of time to believe in a concept that fails to support common logic.  But suppose that is why it is called faith - believing in something when the rest of the world say don’t.  But I am afraid that the world is slowly choosing a path without a God.

Sexual Discrimination In A Just Society

Written by JP Carlos

They say that sexual discrimination is a thing of the past.  Such inequality does not exist in today’s just society.  Well, I think this is just a dream many still have.  The illusion of equality remains a thorn in this modern day of ours.  But the hurdles are being faced and the challenges solved –or are they?

Trust in a World Full of Betrayal

We can only be betrayed by people we trust.  What’s sad is that we live in a world of rampant betrayals.  Do we simply stop trusting or continue to hope that people will change?  The reality is there are people whom we cannot trust.

There Is More To Helping The Needy Than Giving Money

Written by JP Carlos

Have you experienced walking pass by people sprawled on the sidewalk waiting for your spare change?   Have and it is unsettling.  In the Philippines, some would go to public transport and hand you an envelope hoping that you’d give some cash to them.   Truth is, I do not want to give cash to them.  Although refusing to give them cash breaks my heart, I know that it is for the best.

Is Kissing On The First Date Too Much?

Written by JP Carlos

It is been a while since I got in the dating scene.  Well, for one I am married.  And probably I won’t do well with the changes in the dating behaviors that I see now.  For one, kissing on the first date seems to be a norm now.  Or perhaps I’m just a witness to really passionate people going out for the first time.  But would you kiss on the first date?

Beautiful

Written by Mikaela Nicole Tiu

I live in the 21st century – a world of freedom, a world of liberty, a world for the people. Ever since I was born, I knew and observed that each person around me had the freedom to say whatever he or she wanted, had the rights, and could do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. This is the epoch of independence, and has been this way for so many, many years. I thought this was how the world revolved, each and every person joyfully walking around with their own wants and no guided future, because I was a mere child back then and I was trapped in my own personal childhood bubble of dolls, petty games, and everyday monotony only children like me would find amusing.

Oh, how wrong was I.

THE CAUSE OF DISCRIMINATION

Written by M. Te

Nigger, niggah, black guy, yellow, Asian, white, have you heard of these terms? I am pretty sure you have. Discrimination has been a major issue all around the world. People discriminate each other which all result into a fight or war. People always find that they are the better race. There was never a single day in our world now without a war. It was mostly caused because of discrimination between the different races.

Gain MONEY to stop POVERTY

Written by Tyrone Tan

Do you know what poverty is? Is it very important? Well, let me introduce you what poverty really is. Poverty is one of the main problems in a country. It is when certain people lacks money for their daily lives. Money is one of the most important things is a person’s life. Without money people wouldn’t afford their basic needs in life like food, clothes, shelter, medicine and education. Corruption of our government is one reason of poverty. We need to stop poverty because it is enlarging and it could be more serious later on.

Stopping World Hunger

Hunger is a severe lack of food. World hunger is hunger taken to world level. People often talk about stopping this situation and helping the ones affected. Poverty is the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions.

We may say that we know what is Human trafficking but somethings need to be research and understand.

Efforts to Mitigate the Consequences of Climate Change

Written by Hazel Anne Louise L. Si

Several world issues have already been raised to our attentions for the past years, and it is no doubt that one of them would be the ever changing climate in our world. Climate change is already slowly transforming the life on our planet and still continues to threaten the existence of several resources in our world.

This Stereotypical World of Ours

Written by Keith Santos

I .Introduction to Stereotypes.

I will be here to share my opinion about a world issue that isn’t really noticed easily by just looking at the world or an issue that is seen through a psychological perspective. This world issue is about Stereotypes or people who discriminate others. Now what exactly is a stereotype? It is when a person thinks of the whole group of somethings or some people the same just because of the actions of one individual from that certain group. Now you may wonder why this is such a bad thing or how it was dubbed as a Worldwide issue, that’s a long explanation. Unlike those nuclear weapons or terrorism that gives an immediate reaction or suddenly alerts the world, being stereotypical can cause plenty of misunderstandings, Discriminations and false information over time. Sad to say some of these Ideas have existed a long time.

Equality in the World

Written by Sofia Reyes

Gender inequality is considered a world issue because of the unequal treatment of genders. In business, male would get a higher salary than men because they say that he earns for the family. Some female workers work harder than male workers but then they still get a lower salary. Imagine this, a student studied hard for a quiz but then she failed, on the other hand, her seatmate just use a cheating technique then she failed. Isn't it unfair? If this happend to you what would you do?

"Gender inequality? Lets kill that thing"

Written by N. Ranay

Intro- what is gender inequality?

Gender inequality is really big issue today. Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. It happens all the time. It may happen anytime and anywhere. You can even be a victim of this issue. This is really harsh. We should STOP this!

Gender Equality is Better

Written by Dave Pua

Have you heard about gender inequality? This a very serious case when it comes too gender. I experienced it myself. Like when one of my girl classmates slaps me for some apparent reasons. She could've said something about not repeating it again. But instead, she slaps me. When the wife or girlfriend is spoiled and they want everything, the male feels bad you know, but there are not just showing it. They just do not want to offend their girlfriend or wife.

Ebola V.S. The World

Written by Thomas Dominick Ong

Ebola is a very dangerous, life threatening disease that we do not fully understand yet. This is why we are alarmed by the recent outbreaks and are frightened about the outbreaks that are coming. You must be asking yourself “what is Ebola?” well let me answer that question; Ebola in humans is actually four kinds of viruses from the genus Ebolavirus. The four are Bundibugyo virus, Sudan Virus, Tai Forest Virus, and one just called Ebola virus (EBOV). However some of you might go search online and see that there are five viruses. The fifth, Reston virus, does not affect humans but has caused disease in other primates

Our Hindered Progress

Written by Ryan Kerwin Po

Everyone is a witness of the Philippines' worsening condition. The main cause of this is the corruption in the government and in our country. Everyone is affected by corruption. We must do something to stop corruption so that we can improve the condition of our country and its people.

Why Gender Inequality is Horrid to Unity

Written by S. Ong

Gender inequality is bad! Gender inequality is simply the unequal treatment of a gender. This is either treating women better or treating men better. Gender inequality existed even in ancient times and until now, it has not stopped. It is truly hard to stop gender inequality in the world, because influences of other tradition(that has gender inequality) may influence others of different types of gender inequality.

Kyoto 2.0

Written By Camille Ong

If someone takes up the topic ‘global warming’ in a conversation, most would react with annoyance. They would think this topic again? Well, yes. I feel like this topic is not to be thrown aside just because it is so often talked about. In fact that is precisely why I will be talking about global warming. The reason the issue never dies down is because global warming hasn’t been solved yet. However, there are people who do care about the Earth enough to try to find the solution. Many all over this world try to save the planet they share. You and I share it with them but are we doing something to save it?

The Root of Many Problems

WORLD HUNGER AND POVERTY

Have you ever felt hungry? Your answer is most probably yes. Now, think about the millions of people out there who sometimes have to live through days without eating, and reconsider my question. Have you felt truly hungry, with your stomach aching so hard that you can’t feel it anymore? I think not.

Looking the Wrong Way

Written by Julia Rafaelle T. Martinez

Mankind has once again reached a milestone that will change the world as we know it. On the recent November 12, 2014, an unmanned probe on a moving comet called 67P or Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The probe, named Rosetta, after the Rosetta Stone, had taken seven hours before deploying a smaller robot called Philae on the comet. Landing the probe, who had been tailing the comet for ten years in space, had been difficult due to the fact that the comet does not slow down or stop and that it has a rotating axis; in other words, the landing point was constantly on the move.

Fruit Bat Virus

Written by Reese Gabrielle Lim

As we already know, a deadly virus is once again spreading all around the world. This is the ebola hemorrhagic fever, more commonly known as ebola. This virus came from fruit bats. The most recent outbreak started in West Africa and is currently the worse we experienced ever since it has been discovered on 1976. A lot of people have already died from this disease as it is very contagious and worse of all, there is no cure yet. Everyone is trying their best to stop the spread of the disease and I believe we will be able to get rid of the virus very soon. Although it has not reached our country, we still should take care of ourselves and be ready to help others.

Ebola has currently been one of the most trending issues worldwide. Mostly because it is a disease that gives a very high chance of dying and the average human is really afraid of death (who isn’t?). The Ebola Virus has been present around 1976 (that’s pretty long) and has many outbreaks ever since. The current outbreak originated from West Africa and is now spreading worldwide. Here are some reasons why Ebola is something we should not be afraid of.

The Fad About a Disease

Written by Jazlyn Ko

I’m sure you’re familiar with the ever so famous ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. (But in case you don’t I’ll explain its mechanics) Once you’re nominated, one has two options. The first is to donate 100$ to ALSA.org to help fund research for the said disease. The second is record yourself dumping a bucket of ice cold water on your entire body to help spread awareness on social media within 24 hours. Of course, you have the option to perform both options. The ALS Ice Bucket challenge was no doubt a hit and was very famous for quite a period of time.

AN ISSUE BEFORE AND UP TO NOW

Written by: HCC Hawson

The unequal treatment between genders has been a very big issue in the world. Everyone can face it, be it man, woman or even the third gender. This is what we call Gender Inequality.

Painting the World Green

Written by P. Go

One galaxy, eight planets, seven continents, and thousands of people in each one; and yet less than a third of it does anything to help save our word. We, as the people living on this world, should know that it’s the only one we’ll ever live in (and by chance, if we do somehow make it to mars before my life is over, I’d still rather die on the planet I was born on then go to any other). If we don’t take the chance to make change that’s always been there soon, we probably never will.

Racism

Written by: Drew Justine C. Cua

Racism is already a big issue before, and now it’s still ongoing. Society judge people and they don’t think before they say anything that would hurt that person. They don’t put themselves into one’s shoe and think what they would feel if they said this or that. We can’t judge people based on what they look like or what skin tone they have because it is not their fault so why judge them? We do not have the right to judge.

A World without Equality

written by Anne Bernice Cheng

Have you ever wondered why some people result to committing suicide due to people insulting him because of his gender? If not, then you are probably not yet that familiar of the issue today which is gender inequality. So what exactly is gender inequality? Gender inequality is a “practice” in which people show unequal rights to each gender. It is also considered as showing unequal treatment to an individual because of his/her gender. It is an issue today that could make a person feel bad about himself. This is why we have to stop gender inequality in our world.

Stop Racism

Written by Ruth O. Caluban

When I was young, I wasn’t aware of anything. I wasn’t aware of what was happening to the world. I realized that I was missing a lot in this world. Out of curiosity, I started to watch news and research about what are the current global issues. Racism is one of them. I have noticed that it has been occuring more frequent that it has before. But what is racism? Why is it considered a ruthless thing.

War Is Not The Way To Have Peace

Written by Alexine Ang

Have you ever think about war? If this happens, what is going to happen to us and the world? Why do we need to have war? Can’t we just stop this by communicating? Well, for me it is going to make this world go crazy. Life is always disappearing one by one and day by day all over the world.

What’s Left?

Written by Chelsea Grace S. Aguilar

Phones, Laptops, Cars, Toasters, Coffee Press, these are objects we use every single day. We use our phones to scroll through Twitter, check how much Instagram likes you got, and so on. We use our cars to get to the mall, to the school, or to the nearest milk tea place. Little do we know that these objects contribute to climate change. Our cars emit carbon dioxide, our phones use up electricity, all the things we use at home contribute to climate change.

The Corruption in the Philippines is Embarrassing

Written by JP Carlos

The news about corruption in the Philippine government is simply embarrassing.  The extent to which this deplorable act is perpetrated is both shocking and disheartening.  Plunder cases have been filed against top officials like the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Philippine Presidents and Senators.  Even the local government’s officials have managed to steal, get kickbacks and abuse their authority for personal gains. Is there even a chance to stop these atrocities done to the Filipino people?

Hope for A World Addicted To Sex And Violence

Written by: JP Carlos

Many say that entertainment and media reflects society.  On the other hand, some would argue that society is influenced by what it sees.  Regardless, sex and violence is much a part of the entertainment industry.  Likewise, an increasing number of sex and violence related events have plagued our world.  The effects show in daily life, values, and beliefs.  Unfortunately it can ruin lives.  Immediate and decisive actions should be put in place because right now, what is being done is not enough.

Sustainable Economic Growth for The Philippines: Not in the Near Future

Written by: JP Carlos

According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Philippines had the most favorable projected growth rate at 6.2 percent from 2015 to 2019 among the ASEAN nations.  The statement by the Paris-based organization was made during the ASEAN Trade and Investment Summit in Burma.  Of course this announcement heralds the potential growth in the country’s business sector.  But a troubling truth remains – can projections turn into reality?
